The South Carolina Democratic Party has a new website and video against Republican gubernatorial candidate Nikki Haley. The site calls Haley the Queen of Cable, asserting that she is more of a national political celebrity than someone focused on South Carolina. Democratic party chair Carol Fowler asserts that the website is not so much an attack against Haley as it is a little poke.
Fowler says Haley has been on the cover of Newsweek and all of the national networks. But wouldn’t a Haley supporter say that’s really good publicity? Fowler says South Carolina has enough problems to occupy any leader, and those state problems should be the focus, not “running with the national press.”
The Newsweek article quotes Henry McMaster, the attorney general who lost to Haley in the primary:
She brings something new to our party. We have a new leader for the conservative movement in this country, right here in South Carolina.
