The South Carolina Department of Transportation is now offering new standard roadside memorials to immediate family members who would like to honor loved ones lost to traffic accidents.
The 24″ x 24″ signs will read, “DRIVE SAFELY” with a 24″ x 12″ memorial plaque attached saying, “IN MEMORY OF,” followed by the victim’s name or even an anonymous identification, such as “A LOVED ONE.”
Transportation Secretary H.B. Limehouse, Jr. says:
In years past, families that have lost loved ones have put their own lives in danger when placing memorials along roadsides. The SCDOT memorials will provide a dignified and safe way to honor their lost family members.
SCDOT will begin accepting applications for memorials on August 9.
