One of South Carolina’s busiest interstates, I-26, has stricter speed laws along a stretch of the highway starting today. Charleston County Sheriff Al Cannon says he and other agencies will monitor speed limits between Charleston and Columbia, urging drivers to take “speed limit” literally. He says the limit is the highest you should go.
We’ve seen an unusually high fatality rate, number of accidents. Crackdown means putting more people in the same place, and particularly with state troopers. Verbal warning or written warning is not gonna happen too much.
The stretch of interstate that is being monitored more closely is about 120-miles long. Cannon says they will also look out for drunk and reckless drivers.
