The Goose Creek police officer, Robert Edwards Jr., who was shot in the line of duty three weeks ago is now speaking about the incident, and still recovering. “The first thought that went through my mind was ‘I’m not going out like this. I’m staying in the fight’,” Edwards recalled.
Edwards was shot nine times on July 19 after responding to a domestic violence call at the home of Codrick Bass.
“There was no doubt who he was looking to shoot. Several times I was looking down the barrel of it,” Edwards said.
Edwards’ wounds are still healing from the shooting, as he recently underwent jaw reconstruction surgery.
Bass, the man accused of shooting Edwards, remains behind bars and charged with attempted murder. According to WCIV in Charleston, Bass also has a long list of other charges, including kidnapping and criminal sexual conduct. Bass is to undergo a mental evaluation.
