Candidate for governor, Representative Nikki Haley today introduced her plan to improve the state’s business climate, with the goal, she says of “less talk and more jobs.” She toured printing plant for Spectra Integration, a multi-material printing company in Columbia- and then met with the press to unveil her ideas. The high points include comprehensive tax reform and eliminating corporate income taxes first. Why start with corporate tax breaks? Haley says:
The corporate income tax is the easiest and it’s the one that will have companies look at South Carolina first. The small business income tax is definitely going to be second into that because we’ve got to give small businesses that same relief that we are going to give the big companies.
Haley outlined her ideas on exempting and adding business taxes, cutting bureaucracy for permitting, restructuring the way worker’s compensation is overseen, and shifting the SC Department of Workforce into a greater role in job placement. She also addressed how the state Tax Realignment Commission will be incorporated into her plans.
