Senator Jim DeMint doesn’t seem to be concerned about winning his re-election bid against Alvin Greene and Tom Clements, as the well-known Republican is using his fundraising power to help other Republican candidates’ races.
The Congressional Quarterly website reports Senator DeMint has so far directed over $2 million in private donations to various U.S. Senate candidates across the country that he supports, donations made through his political action committee. With the primary season now almost over DeMint’s camp says it’s ready to launch a new website, nicknamed “super bomb,” which is designed to allow his supporters to donate to his favorite candidates.
The website is modeled after what’s known as the “money bomb” strategy used in Internet fundraising. Visitors will be able to donate directly to any candidate Demint supports through his Senate Conservatives Fund.
DeMint is also looking for ways to unload his nearly $4 million war chest as his re-election bid against Democrat Alvin Greene appears secure. One way would be to donate directly to the state GOP rather than to the individual campaigns, a move that wouls violate campaign finance rules.
