The Ninth Air Force at Shaw Air Force Base near Sumter is getting a new commander. Major General William Holland handed over command to Major General Stephen Hoog at a Tuesday ceremony.
The Ninth Air Force is responsible for fighting units along the U.S. East Coast as well as seven flying wings and 14 Air National Guard and Air Force Reserve units.
Holland has been at Shaw Since 2007 and plans to retire at the end of this year. Hoog has served as deputy commander for the U.S. Air Forces Central Command which is in charge of Air Force operations in Iraq and Afghanistan. Hoog is an F-16 pilot with more than 3,000 flying hours.
