A man suspected of killing his estranged wife in Richland County early Wednesday morning was arrested after gunfire with deputies in Fairfield County Wednesday afternoon.
Authorities say about 1:30 Wednesday morning, 37-year-old Charlie Cason broke into an apartment in northeast Richland County and fatally shot his estranged wife, Letitia Cason. Sheriff’s Lieutenant Chris Cowan:
This has been an on-going criminal domestic violence situation. We actually arrested this individual back in June of this year. And we know that he went there to her home specifically to harm her. He burglarized the home. She actually fled to another apartment. He broke into that apartment, and at that time he shot her several times in the upper body.
Cowan says Cason then fled in a car belonging to the victim’s son, going to Fairfield County, where the Casons were married in 2004. The suspect encountered sheriff’s deputies north of Winnsboro off Highway 321, where officers say he fired shots at them. Cason was eventually taken into custody and will face murder charges in Richland County.
