The Charleston County Legislative Delegation is discussing plans for recognizing the history of Fort Sumter in Charleston. The delegation, made up of 22 legislative members, are at Fort Sumter to discuss ways it will observe the 150th anniversary of the Civil War that began in Charleston. The war started with the bombardment of Fort Sumter in April of 1861.
Charleston County Legislative Delegation Chairman Chip Limehouse says the group will talk about ways to pay for anniversary events. He says they may request state funding, but he knows it may be difficult to get due to the tight economy.
The Civil War 150th anniversary is next year.
