After having to cancel a previous forum, the South Carolina AARP plans to host both candidates for lieutenant governor next week.
The forum begins at 7:30 at the Brookland Baptist Church’s Conference Center in West Columbia next Monday the 25th. Both Democrat Ashley Cooper and Republican Ken Ard said they will attend the AARP’s forum. A previous event was canceled earlier this month after Ard told organizers he had another speaking engagement scheduled.
Since the Lieutenant Governor oversees the state’s Office on Aging, the AARP says issues facing older South Carolinians are important for both candidates to address. Cooper is an energy law attorney while Ard is a Florence County councilman.
Cooper and Ard also answered questions in advance from the group, which are now on the AARP’s website.
