ETV recently hosted a debate between 3rd Congressional Distric candidates Jane Dyer of the Democratic Party and Republican incumbent Jeff Duncan.
Of the many hot button issues discussed, the candidates shared their views on the recession and unemployment.
The candidates also shared their opposing views on illegal immigration and adopting a law similar to Arizona’s. Dyer says the best solution is if everyone only hires Americans. Duncan favors a repeal of the 14th Amendment, which states that any child born within US borders is an American citizen regardless of the parents’ citizenship, and firmly believes there should be no amnesty for illegals.
Duncan also supports the extension of all the tax cuts adopted during the Bush administration. Dyer says the tax cuts should remain in place for the first $250,000 of income. When discussing the future of Social Security, the candidates also disagreed on several points.
Other issues discussed by the candidates included special interest funding for campaigns, the war in Afghanistan, energy solutions, and term limits. The debate in its entirety can be viewed on the ETV website.
