Three corrections officers and four inmates were stabbed during a fight at the Lee Correctional Institution that happened around 9 a.m. Monday morning. Officials placed the prison on lock-down.
Josh Gelinas, spokesman for the SC Department of Corrections:
There’s about 1,700 inmates at Lee and they are confined to their cells as we continue to investigate, determine what exactly occurred, and who was involved.
Gelinas says the inmates were injured during the fight and that officers were hurt while trying while trying to break it up.
All three officers were treated at the hospital for minor injuries and have been released. We had four inmates who also were injured and were taken to the hospital and were treated for what is being characterized as non-life threatening injuries.
Names of the officers had not been released, pending notification of family members. Officials say there was never a threat to the public.
