Soon-to-be-governor Nikki Haley will share with the public today more plans for her transition to office.
Today, the governor-elect will hold her first full meeting of what she is calling the Executive Committee of the Gubernatorial Transition. It will be in the governor’s conference room on Statehouse grounds. Haley’s current team is not revealing how many members or who will serve on this team or what the first order of business will be.
She has already appointed the leader of the transition team, Ambassador David Wilkins, former House Speaker and recent U.S. ambassador to Canada in the past administration. He has been a key figure in state Republican politics for years and was S.C. House Speaker when Haley took office as a legislator–the only state-level elected office she has had. She says she’ll now depend on Wilkins’ experience as she staffs her new office and cabinet.
After the election, Haley said she’d move quickly to appoint a new commerce department director, while plans for other cabinet posts have not been announced yet.
The transition team will be revealed at 1:00 this afternoon as they hold their first meeting.
