A Sumter County Airman who died last week in Afghanistan was honored Thursday night and is being buried Friday.
A candlelight vigil was held to honor 23-year-old Staff Sergeant Andrew Bubacz who died of head injuries while maintaining a communications tower in Nuristan, Afghanistan.
Thousands of fellow Airmen and Team Shaw members lined the streets November 18 to pay their last respect while the coffin was at Shaw Air Force Base on Thursday.
A public service is being held Friday in Sumter at Bullock Funeral Home at 11 a.m. followed by a burial at Fort Jackson National Cemetery.
Bubacz was assigned to the 97th Communications Squadron out of Altus Air Force Base in Oklahoma. Bubacz was from Dalzell.
