Holiday packages were distributed Tuesday to more than 23,100 inmates in the South Carolina correctional system.
More than 150 volunteers with the S.C. Baptist Convention prepared packages for each adult inmate in the South Carolina correctional system. Each care package includes toothpaste, a toothbrush, soap, mints, envelopes with postage, a pen, a notepad, a Christmas card and a brochure titled, “Book of Hope.”
Corrections Director Jon Ozmint said the packages were a welcome gift for many who would otherwise receive nothing over the holidays.
During the holiday season many inmates will get a visit from friends or family. For too many others, there will be no such visits; the gifts they receive from the S.C. Baptist Convention will be the highlight of the season. All of us at SCDC are grateful for the hundreds of individuals across this state who contributed to those who might otherwise have been forgotten.
The items were donated from churches within the Baptist Convention. Volunteers distributed the packages Tuesday to inmates at the state’s 28 prisons. This marks the 30th year that the holiday care packages have been provided by the convention.
