The South Carolina Republican party announced Wednesday that the city of Greenville will be the site of the “First in the South” GOP presidential debate next spring. The debate will be held on May 5th at the Peace Center for Performing Arts. It will be broadcast live on the Fox News channel.
The debate would be among Republican candidates seeking the 2012 presidential election.
Greenville mayor Knox White said hosting the debate will have a big impact on the city.

Democratic candidates also debated at the Peace Center in the 2004 primary.
Karen Floyd is the chair of the state GOP. She says the debate will be followed nationally.
Fox News said it would also host a second debate in the state in 2012.
