Soon-to-be governor Nikki Haley is doing right by women as she selects her team, according to a non-partisan group promoting the role of women in politics in the state.
To date, two of four Haley cabinet choices are women. Margaret Barber would lead the Department of Juvenile Justice and Catherine Templeton is her choice for director of the Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation. The Gubernatorial Appointment Project (GAP)is chaired by former state Representative, Democrat Candy Waites. She spoke with SCRN’s Ashley Byrd:
The GAP project and the Southeastern Institute for Women in Politics have asked the governor-elect to consider more women as she names agency heads and members of boards and commissions. The state ranks last for women in political leadership.
