Cecil Haire, age 52, of Douglas, Georgia, has filed an appeal of his conviction and his 25-year prison term, according to court records. Haire was sentenced last month after pleading guilty earlier this year to robberies in Alabama, Florida, Georgia and South Carolina.Haire was arrested in July of last year after two witnesses followed him from a bank robbery in Mt. Pleasant near Charleston —robbery number 13– in South Carolina. Police found him in a nursing home parking lot. Haire began the spree of bank robberies while on parole for a 1987 robbery conviction.
According to authorities, he used a BB pistol during the robberies to make it look like he had a real gun. Haire was dubbed the “Limping Bandit” because of the limp he has as a result of childhood polio.
