Soon-to-be former governor Mark Sanford says that he wants to wrap up his time as governor the same way he first sought the job:
Almost 10 years ago, we began our first grassroots campaign for governor by traveling the highways and dirt roads of this state and meeting hard-working South Carolinians where they lived, where they worked, and where they ate,” said Gov. Sanford. “We’re going to end this Administration the same way we began it — by going from one corner of the state to the other, touching base with people from all walks of life, connecting with friends old and new, and saying ‘thank you’ for the grace and support extended to me and my family over the years.
In his last full week as governor, he has set up a sort of whistle-stop goodbye campaign, starting Tuesday morning in Rock Hill, to Spartanburg and Anderson; Wednesday in Greenwood McCormick; Columbia and Myrtle Beach on Thursday; Friday in Sumter; and the Monday before the inauguration in Hilton Head. Wednesday the 12, a new governor will take charge- ending the eight years of the Mark Sanford Administration-
His agenda contains political events, however, to the end.
Tuesday, the governor unveils his 2011-12 Executive Budget and he holds a tax policy press conference in Columbia on Thursday, January 6.
Wednesday, he will be a guest by phone on SCRN affiliate WLMA in Greenwood, who will be covering the swearing-in of South Carolina’s freshman class of congressmen from Capitol Hill.
