First Congressional District Congressman-elect Tim Scott is among those being sworn-in to Congress this week. Scott and three other freshman South Carolina congressman will be officially taking their seats on Capitol Hill Wednesday.
An exciting time hopefully for our state. We’ve got four new congressman from across the state. It’s an opportunity for us as Republicans to lead our nation back to the Conservative construct, and if we do so I think the voters will be very pleased and I think the country will be on a path back towards financial sanity.
Scott told ABC-News 4 in Charleston he plans to stay true to his roots in South Carolina.
I think the best thing I can do to remain the person I am is to come home. Washington is not a lifestyle. Washington is where I go to do the work of the people of South Carolina, and I come back home to the folks of the First Congressional District.
Besides Scott, Jeff Duncan, Trey Gowdy and Mick Mulvaney are the other freshman congressman. Scott is the first Black Republican since Reconstruction to be elected into Congress from South Carolina.
