A Norwegian shipping company has announced plans to come to the Charleston area.
On Tuesday morning, Odfjell Holdings (US), Inc. said it would build a $37 million facility and create 12 new jobs over the next three years in the Charleston area. The investment will also impact construction and support services employment.
Odfjell is known as a leader in providing specialized transportation and distribution services. The new terminal site will be located along the Cooper River shipping channel and will consist of 40 tanks with deep draft marine, rail and truck accessibility.
David A. Ellis, president of Odfjell Holdings (US) Inc., says the Charleston site will supplement their existing terminal in Houston, Texas. Ellis says the combination of their shipping network with this facility will provide additional distribution options for their customers.
The company expects to finish construction and have the new facility operational by 2013.
