New 3rd District Congressman Jeff Duncan told SCRN’s affiliate in Greenwood, WLMA, the week in Congress has been traumatic after Representative Gabby Giffords was shot in an appearance in her district.
I spoke from the House floor yesterday on the resolution, honoring the victims and honoring our colleague, who’s still struggling out in Arizona. But there is good news for her. She seems to be responding real well. I spoke on behalf of the citizens of South Carolina there, but we’re not going to let that tragedy slow us down. We’re going to get back to work.
Giffords is improving, but six people were shot to death by a gunman in Tucson. Duncan says it is time to get back to work:
There’s no doubt there’s a shadow hanging over everything this week, because of the solemness of the event. And it’s one of our own, our colleague, that was targeted here. But we do have a lot of work to do to turn this government around and all the things we talked about. And so we have a retreat this week as a Republican majority to talk about how we’re going to proceed from this point forward with our agenda.
Duncan serves on three committees:
Natural Resources, Homeland Security and Committee on Foreign Affairs.
On that agenda for him–
Budget cuts–looking at how we can rein in government spending to keep a financial crisis from being exacerbated here in our country and having a European-style crisis. And, you know, there’s a way we can avoid it. But we’ve got to begin working.
Jeff Duncan serves the Congressional 3rd District.
