On behalf of the South Carolina Budget and Control Board Employee Insurance Program (EIP), an agency is saying a hacker may have illegally obtained personal information from people with links to the state’s insurance program.
The release says that between November 8 and November 18, an illegal attempt was made to obtain personal information regarding approximately 5,600 individuals participating in the Employee Insurance Program.
EIP manages insurance plans for approximately 528,000 employees, retirees, COBRA subscribers and survivors and their dependents. It serves state agencies, colleges and universities, public schools and some local subdivisions, such as cities and counties.
