Rescue crews are searching the waters off the coast of Georgetown looking for three men who were supposed to return by sunset Thursday night.
The three fishermen left South Island Ferry Landing near Georgetown on Thursday. They have not since returned. Coast Guard officials have rescue boats, a helicopter, and a C-130 aircraft in operation, searching for Jim and Steve Sanders, and Andy Murray.
The Coast Guard, the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources, and the Georgetown County Sheriff’s Department are assisting in the search off of Winyah Bay near Georgetown. Multiple media outlets report the search that lasted throughout the night, is also being conducted in offshore waters as well.
A Coast Guard spokesperson says last night temperatures reached to about 45 degrees and there were swells, or long waves, of 2 to 3 feet.
