First lady Michelle Obama’s visit to South Carolina is this Thursday and she has a busy schedule. Mrs. Obama will go to Ft. Jackson to bring her message about childhood obesity and exercise programs in relation to her “Let’s Move” initiative. While on base, she is scheduled to be the guest speaker for the 1st Battalion, 34th Infantry’s graduation at 1 p.m.
Before the graduation ceremony, Lt. General Mark Hertling, the deputy commanding general for Initial Military Training will lead a briefing about the consequences of childhood obesity, poor childhood nutrition and the lack of physical exercise. Hertling plans to talk about the military’s programs that address these issues.
Mrs. Obama will also tour Ft. Jackson taking time to visit the “Go for Green” dining program which encourages healthy eating. The last time Michelle Obama visited South Carolina was in January 2008, before the presidential primary.
