Multiple media outlets are reporting that the South Carolina Ethics Commission is requesting that Lt. Governor Ken Ard account for nearly $20,000 in post-election campaign expenditures seemingly not related to his campaign.
Ard reportedly used campaign money to pay for a hotel room at the Hyatt in Atlanta the same night that the University of South Carolina played in the SEC Championship Game at the Georgia Dome. He also reportedly spent $799 of campaign money at a women’s boutique in Florence for what was listed as “supplies” on November 29.
He is also cited for using significant amounts of campaign money to help pay for trips to Washington state, Washington, D.C., Nebraska all since the election.
The latest reports come on the heels of earlier assertions that Ard spent thousands of campaign dollars after the election on restaurant tabs and hotel rooms in Columbia and Charleston, as well as gasoline and cell phones.
The assertions that Ard illegally used campaign funds for non-related campaign expenses was first reported in an article in the “Free Times” publication.
