Governor Nikki Haley joined several state agencies today for the announcement of a large company expansion in Dorchester County. A graphite product supplier to the global steel industry, Showa Denko Carbon Incorporation, has expanded its Dorchester County operations, creating about 100 new jobs. On hand to make the announcement was the South Carolina Department of Commerce, Dorchester County, the Charleston Regional Development Alliance, the South Carolina State Ports Authority, and Governor Nikki Haley.
Haley congratulated Showa Denko, saying that improving South Carolina’s business climate is a top priority for her administration. Showa Denko has been in Dorchester County since 1988 and supplies about 40 percent of the nation’s ultra-high power graphite electrodes.
The expansion should be completed by mid-2013.
