A massive voluntary recall of baby monitors follows the death of two infants, including one in South Carolina.
The Consumer Product Safety Commission warns that electrical cords on the monitors can present a strangulation hazard if they are too close to babies’ cribs. Summer Infant video baby monitors are under voluntary recall following the strangulation deaths of two infants. According to the report one of the deaths was of a 6-month-old boy from Conway, who died in November.
Parents are being urged to check the location of the monitors to make sure the cords are out of the child’s reach. In all, about 1.7 million monitors are being recalled, consisting of 40 different models of handheld, digital and color monitors.
