A newborn infant rescued from the toilet last month at the Greenville Bi-Lo Center is now out of the hospital. South Carolina Social Services Department says the infant was released from the Greenville Memorial Hospital a week ago and is in good condition.
DSS spokewoman Marilyn Matheus says the agency is working on a permanent placement plan with the child’s extended family. The baby’s 24-year-old mother has been charged with felony child abuse and illegal neglect of a child.
Jessica Blackham’s family has said she did not know she was pregnant and did not remember giving birth. Blackham also has a 4-year-old child.
Cleaning crews discovered the newborn in the toilet at Greenville’s Bi-Lo Center and took care of it until medical help arrived.
