The body of an Upstate airman who was gunned down at a German airport last week is back in the United States.
Senior Airman Nick Alden’s body was brought to Dover Air Force Base in Delaware Monday. Alden and another airman were killed, and two other airmen were wounded, when a gunman opened fire on a bus carrying 15 soldiers to Ramstein Air Base.
The 24 year old Alden lived in Williamston and had served in the U.S. Air Force the past four years and was in Germany training for an upcoming deployment to Afghanistan. The Independent-Mail of Anderson reported that a memorial service will be held Thursday at Lakenheath Airfield in England where Alden was stationed.
Alden’s mother told the newspaper that her son’s funeral will be held next week in South Carolina. He leaves behind a wife, who is also from Anderson County, and two young children.
