A new study predicts the cruise terminal at the Port of Charleston will bring in about $43 million. The Center for Business Research at the Charleston Metro Chamber of Commerce conducted the study that says the Charleston cruise terminal will not only bring in the millions of dollars to the state’s economy, but will also create about 300 new jobs in the terminal’s construction.
The State Ports Authority says it plans to have the renovations of an existing building on the Cooper River done by sometime next year. As part of the state’s $18 billion tourism industry, the cruises bring in money for the city’s restaurants, lodging, retail, among others. A study conducted last year found the cruise industry brought in about $37 million to the economy.
