Southwest Airlines will make its way into South Carolina this weekend. Southwest is known for its low fares, and now South Carolinians won’t have to travel that far to save on flights. The airline will begin new flights in Charleston and Greenville-Spartanburg this weekend, expecting to save travelers millions of dollars on airfare.
Tourism officials are pleased with the airline’s arrival because it is predicted to bring hundreds of thousands of people flying into the state, meaning more money. The AP reports other carriers usually drop their prices when Southwest enters that market.
Flights out of South Carolina will go to Baltimore-Washington, Chicago, Nashville and Houston. The first flight out of the state will be Sunday, a day after the airline’s arrival.
