As the investigation into Saturday’s deadly amusement park train ride accident at Cleveland Park in Spartanburg continues, Matt Conrad, the conductor of the train, and his lawyers met with the media Wednesday. Conrad said they believe the accident was due to a freak mechanical failure. According to a Spartanburg Police report, Conrad said shortly after the accident that he was operating the train too fast.

Conrad said he too was a victim and feels he’s being made a target.
Funeral services for six-year-old Benji Easler, who was killed in last Saturday’s train ride accident, will be held Thursday afternoon. The funeral will be at the Corinth Baptist Church in Gaffney beginning at 4 o’clock.
Wednesday night, hundreds of people attended a visitation at the church. Following the visitation, Benji’s father, Rev. Dwight Easler spoke with the media. He said there just looking for answers.
One of the families hurt in the accident is suing Spartanburg County and state officials. Brooks Harris, his wife, and two children are recovering from injuries suffered in the mishap.
