The Columbia TEA Party is already gearing up for what has become a statewide event– a Tax Day Rally. The Columbia TEA Party will be sponsoring a rally on Saturday, April 18 to be held on the north steps of the State Capitol in Columbia.
Tea Party Spokesman Allen Olson says the event is slated from 12 noon until 2:00 p.m. and plans are to focus attention on how tax dollars are being spent on all levels.
We want to do it at the national level and also at the state level. We’ve… just recently passed the House with the state budget, it’s the largest in state history. We want to bring attention to that.
Olson says it’s a way to educate taxpayers on who’s in control of their money.
Just come on down to get educated and hear some motivational speakers. We’re going to have some booths set up from other organizations. Get reading material and hopefully you’ll leave on April 18th a little more educated on exactly how the government is spending our money, and who’s controlling our money.
Organizers are hoping for at least 1,500 attendees. Olson says active members have been fighting to restore limited government and fiscal responsibility. “We want people to get actively involved in our government, both state, local and national level.”
The Tea Party says some of those who will be speaking at the event are Gov. Nikki Haley, State Sen. Tom Davis (R-Beaufort), and State Treasurer Curtis Loftis.
