As the debate on the budget continues in Washington and the federal government faces a possible shutdown on Friday, Congressman Republican Joe Wilson says it is clear to him who is at fault.
It’s a failure by the Congress last year to adopt a budget. It’s a failure by the liberals in the Senate not to adopt the continued resolution. And then it’s a failure by the current president to be diverted from what’s important and that is to have a budget for this year.
Wilson says a lack of focus on the budget puts troops pay at risk.
It turns my stomach that if there’s a shutdown, our troops could be in this circumstance, as they’re risking their lives, not to be paid. Republicans are proposing that the defense budget be funded for the balance of the year. That’s important to me.
If the government shuts down, Wilson says the cause seems intentional. “I really believe that because of the failure of the liberals not to pass a budget last year, their intent was to create this impasse, this crisis in government.”
Wilson says he doesn’t think the Obama Administration was focused on a plan.
I just don’t think it was serious, and I say that sadly, because the president named the lead negotiator on his side to be the vice president a couple of weeks ago. And the first thing the vice president did was go on a pre-planned trip to Helsinki, Finland. Then we all know the president, that he went to a golf course. Then this week he began his presidential campaign. There’s not been a focus.
