Law enforcement officials say a former state employee used a government credit card for more than $50,000 in personal spending.
The State Law Enforcement Division said it arrested Denise Johnson of Conway Wednesday and charged her with breach of trust. Johnson is accused of using a state-issued credit card to buy more than $53,000 in purchases for herself while she worked with the South Carolina Department of Transportation.
SLED also said Johnson used the card for several upgrades to her house. The agency said the crimes occurred between 2009 and January 2011.
A spokesman with the SCDOT said Johnson had been an administrative assistant with the agency’s Horry County office. He said she had been an employee since 1982.
