A new state-of-the-art manufacturing facility is coming to Union County. ESAB Welding and Cutting, which manufactures welding products, announced plans Wednesday it would invest more than $19 million in a new facility.
Cleveland, Ohio’s ABC Channel 5 news is reporting ESAB will shut down a plant in Northeast Ohio, in favor of opening a new facility in South Carolina. The report says the company will close its plant in Ashtabula and transfer its operation to South Carolina, where it is expected to generate at least 100 new jobs .
Union County Development Board Executive Director Andrena Powell-Baker said ESAB’s decision to locate its welding wire operation in Union County could not have come at a better time, as she says the capital investment will do much to stimulate their local economy.
Plans are to have the new 250,000-square foot facility operational by the end of 2011.
