Now that a conference committee of South Carolina House and Senate leaders have worked to fashion a compromise Voter I.D. bill, the measure now moves to the House and Senate for a vote. The measure would require a person to present a photo ID at the polls in order to cast a ballot. House Speaker Bobby Harrell says the compromised was hammered out because committee members narrowed their focus on the photo identification stipulation.
Harrell says lawmakers are making the bill a priority because the people of South Carolina have let it be known that they want the law on the books.
