The South Carolina State Ports Authority Board voted to move forward with its new cruise terminal on the north end of the Union Pier in Charleston. The board unanimously approved the resolution which calls for the development of the new cruise terminal after 18 months of discussion and public input. This new terminal will be built where a cargo-handling facility currently sits on the north end of the port with the intention that it will continue the success of Charleston’s cruise industry.
The SPA has awarded CH2M Hill with a $2.4 million contract for the design work of the new facility that is expected to maintain the character of the Charleston look. Construction is expected to begin at the end of this year and completed by the end of 2012.
