Coastal Uncorked Food, Wine and Spirits Festival is going on throughout the week of May 8th -15th at Myrtle Beach. It’s the second annual wine and spirits festival featuring a wine tasting trolley tour, outdoor entertainment, a golf tournament and the Coastal Uncorked Food Challenge fundraiser.
Candace Howell, Executive Director for Coastal Uncorked says the event first began as a restaurant week and quickly grew.
In it’s inaugural year, it was extremely successful, very well received from the community, both businesses and residents as well. And then we had lots of folks come in from our drive-to markets to support the festival and our ticket sales. So we knew in 2011 that we needed to up the ante a little bit, so we brought in Paula Deen.
Coastal Uncorked begins with “Restaurant Week” which features dozens of restaurants. Howell tells us this is followed by the golf tournament featuring tasting tables throughout. Then….
….Friday the Tasting Trolley event kick off with ten themed stops this year, one includes Coastal Untapped which is a brewery event in Plyler Park in Myrtle Beach, and then the wine tasting tents and Gourmet Villages at Market Common. And that’s Friday and Saturday from 12:00 (noon) to 5:00 (p.m.) each day.
Saturday night is the Paula Deen event and Sunday is the grand finale: the Iron Chef food challenge competition.
Howell tells us the event is to showcase all that the Grand Strand has to offer.
Some people may be interested in golf, and others might be interested in just wine and or spirits or just food in general, or all things combined. It really is a different fit for all different kind of folks so it kind of reaches out to everyone.F
Funds raised during the festival will be used for future events with a portion being donated to the Horry Georgetown Technical College Culinary School and the Clay Brittain Hospitality Program at Coastal Carolina University.
