More economic development news for Lexington County. Michelin plans to invest $200 million to expand its tire production at the Lexington County plant. That will mean 270 additional jobs in the two-year expansion, which gets underway now.
“The Michelin brand was quite resilient during the recent economic crisis,” said Dick Wilkerson, chairman and president of Michelin North America in a press statement. “As the economy turned, demand for our tires increased dramatically.”
The Lexington plant’s 1369 employees produces passenger and light truck tires. There is also an earthmover tire plant at the site, which employs 475 people. The company says it has invested $1 billion in the site since it was first established in 1981.
