The 30th annual Blue Crab Festival happens Saturday and Sunday in Little River. Festival Spokesman, Bill Norman says the festival brings out the best of everything.
It’s a great combination of fantastic food; really good, live entertainment, particularly in the beach music venue for which this area is famous; and one-of-a-kind specialty arts and craft vendors. The cream of the crop, they’re always at the Blue Crab Festival.
Norman says there are a lot of people attending multiple festivals and those who are vacationing near the Grand Strand can make the Blue Crab Festival at Little River a great side trip.
People who are here vacationing, getting some sun, soaking up the rays, they don’t spend all their time on the beach, so this provides a getaway. A nice day trip where you can go and enjoy a festival atmosphere and then, go back to the beach tomorrow.
Festival organizers expect about 50,000 visitors, but Norman assures us that there’s room for everyone.
The good news is that all the merchants and all the store areas there in Little River turn over the whole area to the festival. There’s plenty of parking, there are shuttle buses that run, there are parking lots that normally a business might use for its own customers, but in a sense in the community spirit they let the Blue Crab Festival use them over the weekend. So, lots of people, but lots of places to put them.
Norman says that the festival is run by volunteers and all the profits from the festival are put back into the community like Camp Kemo, Helping Hands,
“…even providing for some things in the community of Little River that a town that’s incorporated would ordinarily do, but Little River is not incorporated. So the Blue Crab Festival helps out with things around the town. So it’s very important,it’s a lot of community spirit, a lot of community pride, and people come from all over the country and even foreign countries to attend this festival every year.”
