The sentencing for a former Kershaw County deputy is set for Monday. Former Kershaw County Deputy Oddie Tribble was found guilty in February of violating a detainees’ civil rights after he struck inmate Charlie Shelley more than 20 times in August. Tribble faces up to 10 years in prison.
In court, Tribble testified that Shelley threatened him and his family during transport. Shelley did admit that he had “lost his head,” but he did not make the threats.
Jurors said the 27 baton strikes on Shelley are considered “excessive force.” and just too much.
