Former Kershaw County sheriff’s deputy Oddie Tribble has been sentenced to five years in prison for his attack on an inmate. He was fired in August after video showed him striking handcuffed inmate Charles Shelley with a steel police baton 27 times, breaking the man’s leg. He was also ordered to pay $5,000 in restitution.
The attack was caught on jailhouse surveillance cameras. Tribble was convicted in February. He will remain free on bail until he is ordered to report to federal prison.
Reports say Tribble showed no reaction Monday during his sentencing hearing at a federal court in Columbia.
