Earlier speculation about any 2012 presidential ambitions for Senator Jim DeMint are being quashed.
Matt Hoskins, spokesman for the senator, tells the Associated Press DeMint was “seeking to be respectful of supporters” when he told the reporter of The Hill publication he was discussing a potential 2012 presidential bid with his wife.”
Hoskin says DeMint is NOT running but just wanted to take into consideration those who are urging him on. The senator says he has no plans to run and for him to do so would “take an extraordinary set of circumstances.”
DeMint is a tea party favorite and was very effective in raising cash for other candidates last year. The report said his entry would have an “out-sized” effect on South Carolina’s early primary.
