A congressional committee plans to come to North Charleston next week.
The House Committee on Oversight and Governmental Reform announced it will hold a hearing in the Charleston County Council Chambers on Friday, June 17. The topic will be a labor agency’s complaint against Boeing.
The hearing would be scheduled the same week as an administrative court hearing between the company and the National Labor Relations Board, which is suing Boeing to stop the airplane manufacturer from expanding into Charleston. The NLRB accuses Boeing of violating federal labor laws.
The case has served as a political hotpoint for Republicans trying to portray the board as a pro-union agency.
The committee’s chairman, Rep. Darrell Issa (R-California), had wanted several officials from the NLRB to testify about the complaint. The committee requested the agency’s General Counsel Lafe Solomon testify, but Solomon declined, saying that he would be involved in the court case that week.
South Carolina Congressman Trey Gowdy serves on the committee.
