An 8-month-old baby boy has died after being left in a hot car for more than four hours Sunday. Officials say Jayden Davis was pronounced dead at Palmetto Richland Hospital after doctors were unable to revive the child.
Investigators say that the father had taken the boy’s mother to work and upon returning to the apartment did not take the 8-month-old inside. He called 911 when he realized Jayden was still in the car. EMS crews were unable to revive the boy who was later pronounced dead at the hospital.
Richland County Coroner Gary Watts said the boy died at 2:35 p.m. from complications of Acute Hyperthermia, or overheating of the body. Columbia Police Chief Randy Scott said that he does not believe the baby’s death was deliberate and did not say if any charges would be filed in the case. Police are investigating.
