A town attorney is conducting a review on a Summerville behavioral health facility after recent escapes from the clinic. The Summerville Town Council asked town attorney Mark Stokes to review the Palmetto Lowcountry Behavioral Health Facility’s business license, code and zoning requirements after several teens from the clinic escaped.
The facility treats troubled teens who suffer from either sexual aggression, substance abuse, or post-traumatic stress. It sits in the middle of a suburban area that has nearby neighbors worried about the escapees being so close. The Post and Courier reports the facility was given a permit to build a 12-foot high fence around the property to prevent more escapes. Stokes says if he finds a violation in his review, the center will close.
