An eight-year old child in Florence County died today in an all-terrain-vehicle accident, the week after a new ATV law went into effect.
The Florence County Sheriff is investigating the incident after Spencer McGee was riding as a passenger and was thrown. Early reports say a deer ran in front of the vehicle on private property.
Media in the area report that firefighters rescued the child from the woods this morning and he was later pronounced dead at a Florence medical center.
A new law just went into effect last week that requires helmets and eye protection for children 15 and younger and prohibits anyone under 16 from carrying passengers.
Incidents involving children on ATV’s prompted the passage of what became known as “Chandler’s Law.”
