Governor Nikki Haley joined a long list of other politicians Thursday in signing the “Cut, Cap and Balance” pledge. The pledge calls for significant spending cuts, a statutory spending cap, and a balanced budget amendment to the U.S. Constitution as preconditions to raising the federal debt limit.
Haley explained to a Greenville radio station why she supported the pledge.
We absolutely need it coming from the federal government. So my goal in signing this pledge is not only to encourage the federal government to do this, but let them know as a governor I’ll continue to support this pledge as they need the state’s support as well.
Haley urged other governors to sign the pledge.
We have got to acknowledge our debt. We have put our head in the sand too long and I think we have got to make sure a priority is to cut our spending, is to cap our spending. This is your A, B, C’s of government.
